When we think about letting go (especially at the beginning of a new year) we often think about those mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of our life that have been holding us back. We think about letting go of old issues such anger & frustration, outdated beliefs about ourselves and others, useless mind chatter about the past or even the future, excuses about what we can & can’t or should and shouldn’t do.
However, somebody recently posted a challenge regarding letting go of physical “things”. The challenge was to “get rid of 27 things on each of 9 consecutive days”. At first this seemed like a really daunting task – 27 seemed like an awful lot of “stuff” to get rid of in one day, let alone nine times that.
I decided to give it a try for at least one day and see what happened. What I found surprised me. It was such a freeing feeling that I didn’t want to stop at 27. There were things that I no longer liked or used that somebody else might be able to enjoy. There were those things that I’d been meaning to throw out but never got around to doing.
I just might even keep going past the stated nine day. After all, clearing out the old does make way for the new – new things, new thoughts, new feelings, new beliefs (even about yourself).
So I’d like to challenge to you give this a try as well. Then send me an email as to how this made you feel. With your permission, I might even share some of them next month. The power is in your own hands!
